Statement of Purpose

The Associate of Arts in Business degree at Texas Southmost College provides a competitive edge for entrepreneurial individuals seeking to enter the field of business. This degree may be earned in person or 100% online.

Who the Program Serves

The program is open to students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels who are seeking to enter the field of business. Earning an associate degree in business also provides people already working in the field with opportunities to earn a salary increase or qualify for a promotion.

Our students include:

  • Students seeking to enter the business field directly upon earning their associate degree—see a range of job titles in the Career Options section below.
  • Graduates from the program may choose to continue their education by pursuing a wide range of related bachelor’s degree including business, business administration, business analytics, entrepreneurship, international business and healthcare management, and may specialize in concentrations such as accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, management, and supply chain management.

Skills and knowledge you will gain

Students in this program will learn to:

  • apply basic general business knowledge in hypothetical business scenarios;
  • explain basic economic concepts;
  • use business-related information systems with proficiency;
  • explain the roles and functions of an accounting and finance system as relates to business, and
  • explain the basic principles of law as they apply to business and business transactions.

  • Job Fairs: Each spring TSC hosts a job fair that features more than 70 employers, all looking for the next generation of qualified candidates. Students and alumni are invited to bring their resumes and strengthen their contacts in their chosen fields.
  • Career Services: TSC’s Transfer, Career, and Employment Services team assists students in mapping out college transfers, shaping career aspirations, and aiding in post-graduation job placements.
