Patient Care Technician

This program will provide the knowledge to establish a safe and supportive environment for patients. Students will learn ethical and legal standards of infection control, patient care, CPR, EKG, and phlebotomy practices, and the physical skills needed to assist patients with all daily activities. This program will help graduates secure employment in the health care industry. Upon successful completion of the program, students can take the National Health Career Association certification exam to become a certified Patient Care Technician and EKG Technician.

 

Program Requirements: 
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Applicants must achieve a passing score on the pre-entrance exam in the areas of reading, math, and writing
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunizations (Required for clinicals): COVID-19 Vaccine (both doses), Influenza Vaccine (obtained during flu season, newest vaccine for that year), Tuberculosis Skin Test (with negative result) or Chest X-ray (good for one year), TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis), MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella (Chickenpox) – (2 vaccines and titer), Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 vaccines), and Bacterial Meningitis (Students are exempt if they are 22 years of age or older)
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Drug Screening
  • Uniform: scrubs, tennis shoes (non-canvas) with conservative logo (no colored strips, no clogs, crocs, etc.), stethoscope, and watch with a secondhand

Patient Care Technician Requirements

 

Upon completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to:
  • Receive TSC Certificate of Completion
  • Receive Occupational Skills Award. OSAs emphasize practical, hands-on training aligned with industry standards to ensure relevance and value in the job market.
  • Receive CPR certification.
  • Be Eligible to take the Certified Nursing Assistant state exam
  • Be eligible take the EKG certification exam
  • Be eligible to take the Patient Care Technician certification exam
