What is Workforce Training?
Workforce Training at Texas Southmost College (TSC) provides short-term, skills-focused programs designed to prepare adults for in-demand careers in industries such as healthcare, industrial trades, and criminal justice. Most programs can be completed in six months or less and are ideal for individuals who want to start a new career, make a career change, or enhance their current job skills. Whether you’re re-entering the workforce or looking to advance, TSC is here to support your career journey.

In-Person Support
Walk-ins are always welcome-no appointments is necessary!

Hours of Operation:
- Open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Industrial Programs: Typically, no documents are required unless you’re applying for financial assistance.
Age: Most programs require participants to be 18 or older. For the Police Academy, you must be at least 20.5 years old.
Healthcare & Criminal Justice Programs: You may need to provide documentation such as immunization records, background checks, or other compliance forms.
While federal financial aid (FAFSA) may not apply to non-credit workforce programs, TSC offers scholarships to help cover tuition for qualifying students.
General scholarship eligibility includes:
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
- Must demonstrate financial need by providing one of the following:
- Proof of public assistance (e.g., TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, etc.)
- Proof of unemployment
- Proof of income below the self-sufficient wage for your county (e.g. $14.59/hour for Cameron County)
- Must be reskilling or upskilling for employment. Must agree to participate in career seeking activities, such as:
- Resume writing
- Mock interviews
- Job fair
