TSI Assessment

TSI Assessment vs TSIA2: JANUARY 11, 2021

Texas Southmost College and all Texas IHE will begin administering the Texas Success Initiative Assessment, Version 2.0 (TSIA2). TSIA2 will replace the current TSI placement test and the TSIA2 will be the only administered placement test at TSC. TSIA2 will be integrating Writing and Reading into one section which will be called the English Language Arts Reading section. Regarding Mathematics, the current TSI Math section will remain.

If you meet college readiness standards with the current TSI placement – the scores remain valid for 5 years from date of testing; this also applies to the TSIA2 exam. However, for students who are retesting, current TSIA and TSIA2 test results cannot be combined. That is, these are two different placement exams which one will replace the other.

**Pre-Assessment Activity is required for TSIA2**

TSI Assessment

The TSI is a Placement test for all new college students. The TSI program requires students to demonstrate their college readiness in reading, writing, and math before they can take college-level credit classes. You must take the TSI State Test when you enroll at TSC unless you show proof of exemption or waiver from the requirement. See Exemptions and Waivers.

If you need to test, follow the steps below to test with the TSI.

STEP 1. Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) – REQUIRED for all Student new to TSI Assessment
The Pre-Assessment Activity is a State requirement for all students that are new to TSI testing. The importance of the PAA is to help students understand how the TSI assessment will determine the correct courses to register for at TSC. The PAA also provides information on the college to help students be more successful.
