New Changes to the 2024-25 FAFSA

March Update

The Department of Education has slowly started sending FAFSA files to schools this month. After we receive your information, it can take us several weeks to process your file. It is likely that we, along with many other schools, will not be able to send out financial aid offers to students until early May. Any changes to this projected timeline will be communicated to you.

The FAFSA is open and available 24/7. The redesigned FAFSA has less questions and more students could qualify for the PELL grant! If you haven’t done so yet, we encourage you to complete your 2024-2025 FAFSA as soon as possible. TSC’s school code is 030646.

Priority deadline update to: April 15

New Changes to the 2024-25 FAFSA

The 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form has undergone significant changes as a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act. Here is a list of some of the changes families may expect:

FAFSA

  •  The application is being simplified due to Federal legislation.
  •  There will be fewer questions for students to answer on the application.
  •  The Department of Education will use a simplified calculation that may increase the number of Pell-eligible students. All students are encouraged to apply.
  •  The application now calculates a Student Aid Index (SAI) instead of the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
  •  Students will consent to provide their Federal Tax Information (FTI) via a direct data share with the IRS. All contributors must provide FTI consent regardless of tax filing status.
  •  Students and parents (if applicable) will need an FSA ID to apply for federal student aid.
  •  Students will now have the option to indicate whether they have unusual circumstances on the FAFSA.
  •  The number of family members in college will not be used to calculate SAI.
  •  Students with divorced or separated parents must now file their FAFSA with the parent who provided them the most support during the previous year.
  •  Families will now have to report assets for small businesses and family farms (where they live), if applicable.
  •  The Student Aid Report (SAR) will now be called FAFSA Summary.
  •  Students will no longer be able to mail out signature pages.
  •  TSC’s new financial aid priority deadline is March 15.
