Course Description

Introduction to Basic Construction Skills prepares individuals for entry-level positions on project sites by providing the basics in safety, hand and power tools, construction math, materials handling, construction drawings, rigging, and employability skills. This competency-based program is recognized throughout the country by the construction industry. The knowledge and skills established in Core are the foundation on which successful construction careers are built.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand workplace safety: Graduates should understand the importance of maintaining a safe workplace and comply with regulatory requirements and engineering limits.
  • Graduates should also be able to create a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for any project and stay compliant with OSHA regulations.
  • Workplace injury prevention: Graduates should understand how to prevent workplace injuries, manage risk, and investigate incidents that happen on job sites.
