Statement of Purpose

The Automotive Technology Program prepares students for positions in the automotive industry by providing hands-on training specializing in auto-mechanic practices, equipment and tools, vehicle subsystems, auto-mechanic maintenance, and professional responsibility.

Upon successful completion of the program, students may earn a:

  • Level 1 Certificate – Auto Mechanics Technology, Line Specialist
  • Associate of Applied Science – Automotive Technology

Skills and knowledge you will gain

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  • diagnose and repair concern in the different automotive areas;
  • demonstrate and understand safety procedures, professional and responsible work practices, and
  • show the proper use of shop equipment and tools.

Career Options

Our program leads to a number of positions in the field, including:

  • C-level  technician: performs routing maintenance and repairs, such as tune-ups, oil changes, brake jobs, and battery/alternator/starter services
  • B-level technician: performs all C-level tasks in addition to more complex tasks, such as safety inspections and work on suspension, alignment, and steering systems

Job search assistance

TSC connects students to high-wage, high-demand jobs by aligning academic and continuing education pathways to the workforce. The program provides valuable experiences that make our graduates exceptionally marketable, such as:

  • Internships: Students in the program will participate in an official internship program. The internships offer students enhanced experiences outside of the classroom to develop their skills and to better prepare them to enter the workforce.
  • Job Fairs: Each spring TSC hosts a job fair that features more than 70 employers, all looking for the next generation of qualified candidates. Students and alumni are invited to bring their resumes and strengthen their contacts in their chosen fields.
  • Career Services: TSC’s Transfer, Career, and Employment Services team assists students in mapping college transfer paths, shaping career aspirations, and aiding in post-graduation job placements. FAQ

How long does it take to complete the program? The automotive program offers a certificate and associate degree. Students who attend college full time may earn a certificate in two semesters to complete and an associate degree in four semesters.

How much time will I need to commit to coursework and assignments? Students should plan on spending three hours of study time per week outside of class to complete course assignments.
