Associate of General Studies – Humanities Track 

Interested in a career in the field of writing or English education, or considering transferring to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor of English? Enroll in Texas Southmost College’s Associate of General Studies program on the “Humanities Track,” a specialized concentration providing students a strong foundation in the humanities and liberal arts, with options to specialize in English course work, taking exciting courses such as Creative Writing, World Literature, or Business and Technical Writing.

For students pursuing their Associate of Arts or Applied Science in Criminal Justice, the Communication and Language Department is excited to offer a Composition I course tailored specifically to the demands of careers in the justice and law enforcement fields. Students learn how to write incident narratives, review case reports, properly format documents, and address controversial issues currently affecting justice and criminal law in the U.S.

In this course, students will strengthen their academic writing and research skills while examining major global issues like climate, energy, and the environment. Through a thematic focus, students will compose a variety of essays that address real-world challenges. The course includes required site visits to local historic landmarks and research centers, providing opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world situations. 

*Concurrent enrollment in GOVT 2305: Federal Government (Global Views) is required.

Do you love comics, manga, or graphic novels? Come study visual narratives in TSC’s Forms of Literature – Comics and Manga course. This class features various genres of comics, from superhero classics like Spider-Man and Hawkeye, to award-winning graphical novels, to Eastern comics like My Hero Academia, and examines how comics can be studied as a serious form of literature.
