Welcome to the Science Program!

Texas Southmost College Science

Statement of Purpose & Goals

The department’s mission is guided by its commitment to providing high-quality instruction and learning opportunities for all students. The department offers a degree in the sciences representing an array of disciplines, including biology, chemistry, and physics. The program is dedicated to providing students with innovative and applied knowledge as they enroll in proactive laboratories, such as anatomy and physiology and microbiology, which involve hands-on instruction and practical techniques useful in science-based careers. These courses are essential, especially for programs in the medical disciplines, such as Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Emergency Medical Science. Graduates may pursue four-year degrees that will allow for additional opportunities in the scientific community, including health care, and education.

The chemistry track is designed for students who seek to transfer into bachelor’s degree programs in chemistry or biochemistry. The pre-engineering/physics track is designed for students who seek to transfer into bachelor’s degree programs in engineering or physics. The biology track is designed for students who seek to transfer into bachelor’s degree programs in biology or biomedical science or are working towards meeting the requirements for medical, dental, veterinary, physician assistant, and other health professions schools.
