Counseling and Student Accessibility Resources

 
 

Texas Southmost College (TSC) offers a range of services through its Counseling and Student Accessibility Resources office to support students’ personal and academic growth. Here are some of the key services provided:

Counseling Services

  • Individual Counseling: Free personal counseling for enrolled students to help with personal and academic challenges.
  • Couples Counseling: Support for relationship and family dynamics.
  • Substance Abuse Counseling: Assistance for students dealing with substance use issues.
  • Anger Management Counseling: Help for managing anger and developing coping strategies.
  • Skill-Building Workshops: Sessions on communication, listening, assertiveness, time management, and organizational skills.

Accessibility Services

  • Accommodations Services: Support for students needing accommodations for learning, physical, developmental, mental, and emotional needs. This includes reasonable accommodations to ensure access to all courses, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities.
  • Crisis Resources: Immediate support for students in crisis, including referrals to local mental health authorities and emergency services.

Additional Resources

  • On-Campus Resources: Access to various on-campus support services.
  • Off-Campus Mental Health Resources: Referrals to community resources for additional support.

To schedule an appointment with a licensed professional counselor, students can call (956) 295-3417. For crisis situations, students are encouraged to visit the nearest hospital emergency room, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or text 741-741.

     

    The Office of Counseling and Student Accessibility Resources provides learning, physical, developmental, mental, and emotional disabilities services. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, a person has a disability if he or she has a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activities. TSC provides reasonable accommodations to ensure access to all courses, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities.
