Anatomy and Physiology Summer Camp

A camp for incoming 9th – 11th grade students (female and male students)
June 26th -June 30th 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Anatomy and Physiology summer day camp is designed to stimulate interest and confidence in human anatomy and physiology. Students will engage in hands-on laboratory activities, such as building a human body with clay, learning cause and effect of diseases, and form and function of the human body. Students will participate in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities that facilitate learning and long-term knowledge retention. The program will stimulate interest in STEM and health-related fields by using real-life case studies that can be applied to the local region. 

Goals

  • Use anatomical terminology to identify and describe locations of bones and major organs;
  • Build critical thinking and creativity skills  in regards to shape and functions of bones;
  • Work in teams in order to achieve a shared goal;
  • Identify causes and effects of homeostatic imbalances and diseases;
  • Stimulate interest in STEM and health related fields.

Session topics and activities include:

  • Building a human body with clay
  • Understanding the cause and effect of diseases on the human body
  • Understanding common diseases in our region
  • Visit TSC Technical Laboratory

Participants who successfully complete this summer institute are expected to:

  • Gain a better understanding of the real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics;
  • Overcome negative attitudes and perceptions  that may hinder their  participation in STEM careers;
  • Demonstrate satisfactory performance while engaging in engineering and other STEM projects; and
  • Collaboratively solve problems related to STEM topics.

Additional Information

Classes
Classes are team taught by TSC faculty, public school teachers, and undergraduate college students. Classes are interdisciplinary to facilitate exploration into various STEM fields.

Registration Guidelines
All registration materials must be submitted by the deadline for consideration. The summer institute is free and open to incoming 9th to 11th grade female and male students between the ages of fourteen (14) and nineteen (19).
