Late Goal Lifts TSC Women’s Soccer Past Northeast Texas

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The Texas Southmost College women’s soccer team battled through the scorching midday heat to earn a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Northeast Texas Community College at TSC Scorpion Soccer Field.
The Scorpions opened the scoring when No. 8 Mia Saenz found the back of the net following an assist from No. 28 Abril Martinez.
Northeast Texas responded within the opening 10 minutes, with No. 21 Paetyn Shook scoring the equalizer to make it a 1-1 match.
The score remained tied through most of the contest as both teams fought for possession and scoring opportunities under the intense Texas sun.
With eight minutes remaining, No. 23 Jessenia Ibarra scored the game-winning goal off Martinez’s second assist of the match. The Scorpions protected their 2-1 advantage through the final whistle to secure the victory at home.
The win came one day after TSC suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Paris Junior College.
“Playing two tough matches on back-to-back days really tested our fitness, focus and character,” TSC Women’s Soccer Head Coach Jesus Villareal said. “Yesterday was a difficult result because the team fought until the final whistle and deserved more from the match. Today, they responded the way we want them to. They stayed organized, competed for every ball and kept pushing until they found the winning goal. That shows the heart and resilience of this team.”
After being tested physically and mentally in consecutive matches, the Scorpions closed the demanding stretch with a determined performance and a well-earned home victory.
