BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Texas Southmost College trustees Alejandra Aldrete (Place 2), J.J. De Leon (Place 1) and Edgar Garcia (Place 5) were sworn in during a special meeting held at Jacob Brown Auditorium on June 22, 2026.
Aldrete, who was re-elected to represent Place 2, said she remains committed to serving students and the community while continuing the board’s collaborative work.
“Today is about our shared responsibility to serve our students, families, taxpayers and our community who place their trust in us,” Aldrete said. “To my fellow trustees, I look forward to continuing to work alongside you with the professionalism and respect we have built over the years.”
De Leon, who was elected to represent Place 1, said he is committed to keeping student success at the forefront of every decision.
“The oath I have taken is a promise that students will always remain the center of every decision I make,” De Leon said. “Their success, their opportunities and their future will be my priority.”
Garcia, who joined the board two years ago to complete the term of the late Ruben Herrera, said he remains committed to continuing his legacy.
“I thought God put me in this position to help continue his legacy, and it was my responsibility to finish his term,” Garcia said. “I look forward to continuing to work for the next two years and doing my best to serve Texas Southmost College and everybody it impacts.”
