BROWNSVILLE, Texas (September 1, 2023) – Texas Southmost College Scorpions Men’s and Women’s soccer teams marked their emphatic return to NJCAA with memorable performances.

On Friday, September 1st, the Scorpions took on Trinity Valley Community College with exhilarating victories. The TSC Women’s team clinched a victory with a tight 1-0 scoreline, thanks to a remarkable goal by Mia Ramos (#10) of Idea Riverview. Not to be outdone, the Men’s team celebrated a 2-1 win, with Luis Garza (#27) and Haziel Mejia (#30) each netting a goal, the latter sealing the win.

On Saturday, September 2nd, both squads resumed their competitive spirit against Tyler Junior College (TJC).

“Facing the daunting challenge of TJC’s nationally ranked powerhouse program (#3 for Women and #6 for Men), the Scorpions gave a commendable performance,” said TSC Executive Director of Athletics and Civility, Dr. Armando Ponce. “The scores don’t reflect the spirited competitive passion put forth by the Scorpions.”

The Women’s team endured a 6-0 defeat, while the Men’s team faced a 4-2 loss, in a very competitive match.

Notably, Romualdo Gonzalez (#4) and Ramiro Castaneda (#6) stood tall by scoring a goal each for the Men’s team.

“A notable aspect of this year’s TSC soccer teams is that both rosters are composed exclusively of talents from the Rio Grande Valley, emphasizing the local spirit and passion of the teams,” continued Dr. Ponce. “As the teams move forward in the season, they carry with them the pride and dreams of the entire RGV. The Texas Southmost College Scorpions are truly The Valley’s Team! It only gets better from here.”

Don’t miss the Lady Scorpions take on Navarro Community College, Friday, September 8, at 11 p.m. at the Scorpion Soccer Field at TSC.
