BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Porter High School soccer standout America Quezada will continue her playing career close to home after signing her letter of intent to play for Texas Southmost College.
Quezada made her commitment official during a signing ceremony held at Porter High School in front of teammates, coaches, and friends.
“I’m very excited,” Quezada said. “It’s a new stage in my life.”
A four-year varsity player for the Cowgirls, Quezada primarily played as a defensive midfielder and helped lead Porter to the UIL Playoffs three times during her high school career. Known for her versatility, she was deployed in multiple positions across the field.
“She plays so many different positions,” said Texas Southmost College head women’s soccer coach Jesus Villarreal. “I have to be able to make her adapt quickly to all the positions she will be playing, which is something exciting.”
TSC forward Camila Minez, who was Quezada’s teammate at Porter High School, also played a role in her decision by sharing her experience with the Scorpions program.
“She went on trips and made many new friends, and that’s something I would like to experience,” Quezada said.
Off the field, Quezada plans to study accounting or business at Texas Southmost College while continuing her soccer career as a Scorpion.
