Health Professions graduates are prepared for high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers as healthcare professionals.
The Associate of Science – Allied Health Education and the 100% Online Associate of Science – Allied Health Education programs provide students with the necessary credits to earn their degree and seamlessly transition into bachelor’s programs in any healthcare field.
This program will provide the knowledge to establish a safe and supportive environment for patients. Students will learn ethical and legal standards of infection control, patient care, CPR, EKG, and phlebotomy practices, and the physical skills needed to assist patients with all daily activities. This program will help graduates secure employment in the health care industry. Upon successful completion of the program, students can take the National Health Career Association certification exam to become a certified Patient Care Technician and EKG Technician.
The ADN Program at TSC provides high-quality nursing education to students preparing to enter the nursing profession and for students who are lifelong learners. Recognizing the diversity and uniqueness of the community it serves, the ADN program is committed to the enhancement of the quality of healthcare through excellence in teaching, service, continuing education, and promotion of evidence-based practice.
The six-week non-credit Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program leads to an industry credential. The CNA program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include residents’ rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. There is an emphasis on effective interaction with healthcare team members, restorative services, mental health, and social service needs.
Certified Nursing Assistants are in high demand. Becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant is a great career choice for those who enjoy caring for people and are interested in a healthcare career. The Nurse Assistant Training Program is an intensive, 112-hour course with classroom instruction, skills lab experience, and hands-on training at a clinical site. Nursing assistants typically work in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities under the supervision of the registered nurse. Take the next step to a rewarding career in healthcare.
The CNA Certificate Program can be completed in one semester. It prepares students to provide basic nursing care in healthcare facilities. Students will learn basic nursing skills, medical terminology, and basic anatomy and physiology. They will also participate in both classroom and clinical training.

The DMS Program at Texas Southmost College trains entry-level sonographers to become highly skilled, technically competent, ethical, professional, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of the community, patients, and employing organizations. The Emergency Medical Science Program (EMS) provides innovative, dynamic, and high-quality EMS education to produce professional and proficient EMT and Paramedic certified providers. This is accomplished by providing enthusiastic students with high-quality instruction that develops employable skills, preparing graduates to pass the National Registry Examination of Emergency Medical Technicians successfully. The program’s mission is supported by a caring team of educational faculty, healthcare providers, and physicians with expertise in emergency medicine and a commitment to education. Extensive didactic resources and advanced practicum experiences provide graduates with the skills and versatility needed to function in a diverse healthcare environment. The program is conscientious of healthcare needs and educational requirements.
In alignment with the mission of Texas Southmost College, the Vocational Nursing (VN) program provides a high-quality vocational education program that is sensitive to the needs of TSC students and the community. Texas Southmost College facilitates educational access and academic excellence through a learner-centered, success-oriented nursing program. The program educates the vocational nurse for entry into practice and facilitates articulation into higher levels of nursing education.
Graduates of the VN Program have the following employment opportunities: staff nurse, nursing home, adult day care, doctor’s office, and correctional facilities.
Aligned with the mission of Texas Southmost College, the faculty of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program is committed to serving the educational needs of the people of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. This mission will be fulfilled by providing quality instruction, preparing the graduate to be successful on the national certification examination, and preparing the graduate with employable skills as an entry-level medical laboratory technician.
This program provides high-quality instruction that prepares graduates to be successful on the national certification examination and graduate with employable skills as an entry-level radiographer. In addition, graduates may choose to continue their education, studying emerging advanced modalities.
The mission of the Respiratory Care Science program is to educate students in the following learning domains of the respiratory care practice: cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior), as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs). The program provides enthusiastic students with high-quality instruction, equipping graduates with the employable skills they need to become an entry-level therapist and to be successful on the National Board for Respiratory Care’s Entry Level CRT Examination, as well as the Written Registry and Clinical Simulation Examination for advanced-level students. A caring team of educational faculty, clinical instructors, and physicians supports the program’s mission with expertise in various aspects of respiratory care. Students will engage with an extensive array of didactic resources and clinical practicum experiences at Lower Rio Grande Valley affiliate sites to gain the skills and versatility needed to function in various healthcare facilities. The program will be conscientious about healthcare needs and educational requirements.
No Prerequisites
Only a high school diploma or GED is required to begin our Patient Care Technician course.
