TSC Accounting students set to provide free tax preparation services

For nearly 20 years, Texas Southmost College Accounting Technology students have served their community through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program spearheaded by the United Way of Southern Cameron County, and this year is no different.

Beginning February 1, students from TSC’s Special Topics in Taxation course will assist with free tax preparation services for individuals and families in the Rio Grande Valley.

TSC welcomes new director of technology and online learning

From working help desks and pulling cables to leading teams for the creation and learning of new technology management systems for higher education institutions, Sara Baber brings more than two decades of experience to her new position at Texas Southmost College.

Baber is TSC’s new Director of Educational Technology and Online Learning and said she is excited to be joining a growing community college that has room for technology growth and innovation.

TSC student receives out-of-this-world opportunity

Daniel Gutierrez joined the ranks of Texas Southmost College students who have been named a NASA Community College Aerospace Scholar (NCAS), earning his acceptance after completing the program last year.

“I was in shock when I received my acceptance letter. Who knew a guy from Brownsville could get an opportunity like this,” said the 21-year-old. “I really thought it was a long shot, but it turned into an exciting moment and I received an opportunity that will be beneficial to my future.”

TSC Dual Enrollment program introduces new technical pathways

The Dual Enrollment program at Texas Southmost College is introducing three new pathways this spring to the thousands of high school students TSC serves who are working to earn college credits before receiving a high school diploma.

Computer-Aided Drafting Technology, Industrial Mechanics and Maintenance Technology, one of TSC’s newest programs, and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) are new programs within TSC’s dual enrollment offerings.

TSC to host Facebook Live Registration Rally

Texas Southmost College will host a Facebook Live virtual Registration Rally for the spring 2021 semester on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. on TSC’s official Facebook page @tscscorpions.

The rally is being held virtually so students can ask questions from the safety and comfort of their homes.
