Mentorship: TSC nursing grad gives back to the community

Texas Southmost College alumnus Julio Gonzalez has worked in the nursing profession for the last two decades, but never forgetting where he started, he is also giving back by mentoring the future generations of nurses.

The 48-year-old is the director of Infection Prevention, Clinical Operations and Assisted Living for Spanish Meadows in Brownsville where he has worked since 1998 and also serves on TSC’s Nursing advisory committee.

TSC’s first commercial roofing graduates all hired by industry partner

It took one Facebook post to turn Andres Garza’s life around with a new career and financial security.

The 22-year-old is part of the first graduating class from the newly introduced Commercial Roofing Pre-Apprentice program at Texas Southmost College.

TSC offers the community free law and finance lessons

Immigration law, family law and identity theft are some of the hot topics that Texas Southmost College is covering during its free law and financial lessons hosted by the TSC Workforce Training and Continuing Education Academy of Lifelong Learning.

These virtual lessons are free and open to the public with the goal of educating the community on pertinent law facts and financial literacy.

TSC gives students a shot of defense against COVID-19

Alondra Mejia, Texas Southmost College Diagnostic Medical Sonography student, raised her sleeve and said it was her shot toward normalcy during TSC’s first student-only vaccine clinic at the International Technology, Education and Commerce (ITEC) Center.

“It feels great. I’ve never been more excited for a vaccine,” she said. “This is going to keep me safe, my family safe, and hopefully it means we can return to campus soon.”

TSC Foundation set to expand fundraising efforts, help more students

Financially, for Mario Ortiz, getting a college degree seemed impossible, but through the efforts of the Texas Southmost College Foundation and the student scholarships it provides, he was able to pursue his dream.

The Brownsville native did not quality for financial aid and had to pay for college out-of-pocket.
