With grant from TWC, TSC continues to reshape local economy

Texas Southmost College Workforce Training and Continuing Education is preparing the workforce of tomorrow with in-demand technical programs that produce skilled workers to meet the needs of local industry, the region and the state.

In support of the college’s efforts, the Texas Workforce Commission recently awarded TSC with a $350,000 Texas Talent Connection Grant during a check signing ceremony at the TSC Performing Arts Center. This was the second year TSC was awarded funding through this grant program.

New TSC program offers credit for work experience, saves students time and money

Texas Southmost College is introducing a new option for students that will get them to graduation quicker. The new Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program will give students credit for earned industry certifications, work experiences and licensure.

Already in effect, TSC’s PLA program aligns with the college’s strategic plan of developing accelerated pathways to move students to degree and certificate completion.

TSC grad set to begin career and help patients breathe easier

With two younger siblings diagnosed with respiratory conditions, Troy Zepeda wanted to find a career where he could help them, and others, breathe easier.

Taking to the internet for research, he discovered the Respiratory Care Science program at Texas Southmost College, and he knew immediately this was the career path he was going to choose.

A sigh of relief: TSC respiratory care alumna gets second chance at success

Natalia Pereiea has always believed in second chances, and she is thankful that Texas Southmost College believes in them too.

The 22-year-old earned an associate degree in Respiratory Care Science in spring 2021, after a lengthy battle with grief after the loss of her biggest supporter – her grandfather.

TSC helps strengthen family wellness, self-care in the community

Brisa Ceniceros and her son Kevin, a rising junior at Rivera Early College High School, recently stopped by the Texas Southmost College campus to pick up a COVID-19 Wellness Box.

The Wellness Box pick up happened during a kickoff distribution event hosted by TSC’s Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center in collaboration with the Brownsville Independent School District and BISD Communities in Schools.

During the 2020-2021 school year, TSC’s 21st Century program launched a series of parent training sessions that covered topics such as substance abuse awareness and gang prevention to COVID-19 wellness awareness.
