TSC provides students much needed financial relief

Students at Texas Southmost College are once again getting much needed help thanks to federal funds given to TSC from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund – authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

Eligible students will receive $652 in federal funds and will begin to see the money as early as this week.

Texas Southmost College and Schwickert’s Tecta America have partnered to introduce a brand-new Roofing Pre-Apprentice Program – the first of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley, designed to create jobs and opportunities for the people of Brownsville and across the Valley.

Schwickert’s Tecta America is a leading Midwest roofing and mechanical systems contractor serving commercial, industrial and residential markets with locations in Minnesota and Kansas.

Drafting student finds his stride at TSC

With a knack for drafting and design at a young age, Cristian Banda knew this was the career for him, and now Texas Southmost College is helping him work toward that goal.

The Brownsville native expects to graduate from TSC’s Computer-Aided Drafting Technology program with an associate degree in summer 2021, but he didn’t always think becoming a college graduate was a possibility.

TSC creates Academy of Lifelong Learning, welcomes longtime educator as coordinator

As an educator, Sharon McQuaid has dedicated herself to a career of lifelong learning, fitting for the Academy of Lifelong Learning coordinator for Workforce Training and Continuing Education at Texas Southmost College.

The Academy of Lifelong Learning is a new initiative developed by TSC to provide the community with courses that allow self-discovery in an authentic learning environment and is a project funded through an AmeriCorps grant program.

TSC student finds strength to achieve success, pursue dreams

First-generation college student Yavda Hernandez has proven she can overcome the obstacles that come her way, finding success academically and as a student leader at Texas Southmost College.

The 19-year-old is a general studies student at TSC and is expected to earn an associate degree this summer, even though only a few years ago an anxiety disorder wouldn’t allow her to step foot in a high school classroom.
