“The re-opening of TSC’s ADN program was one of the priorities of the college and the board of trustees, and we’re excited to have achieved it,” TSC Board of Trustees Chair Adela Garza said. “TSC’s nursing program has a long history and tradition at the college and within our community, and we’ve brought it back home.”
TSC’s ADN program will re-open with a maximum cohort of 24 students in August for the fall 2019 semester, and will accept another cohort of 24 students for spring 2020. The nursing program will begin to accept applications for fall 2019 in March. The application deadline for fall 2019 is May 25.
“Re-opening the nursing program is a great moment for the college,” said Trey Mendez, Vice Chairman of the TSC Board of Trustees. “For years, allied health has been a rewarding career path for our students and I look forward to them having this option again.”
Dr. Jesús Roberto Rodríguez, TSC President, Acting Dean of Health Professions Scott Nelson, and ADN Program Director Beth Kasprisin presented the proposal to re-open the ADN program before the TBON during the public meeting in Austin. Valley Regional Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Frank Acevedo testified on behalf of TSC.
“We are pleased with the unanimous decision of the Texas Board of Nursing to grant TSC initial approval to re-open the college’s nursing program, and we are grateful for the support of our health care partners and local school districts,” Dr. Rodríguez said. “With the continued support and commitment of our Board of Trustees, the college’s administration, faculty, and staff, we have been and will continue to work diligently to reestablish the ADN program at TSC to serve our students and the community.”
