During the signing ceremony, the Mexican Consulate awarded $10,000 for TSC students that are Mexican nationals or of Mexican origin.

The Mexican Consulate presented a check to TSC for $10,000 during a signing ceremony on June 6, 2018 at the Gorgas Hall Board Room. TSC will match the amount awarded by the IME Becas program on Education for Mexicans Abroad. The overall total of the scholarships that will be available is $20,000.

During the ceremony, TSC President Jesús Roberto Rodríguez, Ph.D., and General Consul Juan Carlos Cué Vega, signed an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding between TSC and the Mexican Consulate in Brownsville that was originally signed on Dec. 11, 2017. The signing extends the MOU until Dec. 31, 2018.

“The signing of the amendment to the MOU will allow us to once again help deserving TSC students to continue their education through the generous assistance of the Mexican Consulate and the IME Becas program,” TSC President Rodríguez said. “Last year, five students benefited from the scholarship provided by the IME. This year, we will be able to double that amount and assist up to 10 students with scholarships.”

Through the IME Becas program, TSC will grant scholarships to 10 Mexican nationals or persons of Mexican origin residing in the U.S. to help them succeed in postsecondary education. Students who submitted a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) to the TSC Financial Aid Office will be selected on a first-come, first served basis for this scholarship.

“It is a pleasure to continue the collaboration with TSC because we know that the scholarships will benefit these students, whether they are Mexican nationals or of Mexican origin,” Consul Cué Vega said. “The scholarships will contribute to the education of a new generation that is needed in both Mexico and Brownsville.”
