The MOU signed by TSC and the Brownsville PD creates a partnership that will provide basic peace officer training to cadets in TSC’s Criminal Justice Institute (CJI), also known as the college’s police academy, and promote the advancement of quality law enforcement education.

“The bond between TSC and the Brownsville Police Department is vital to us,” Brownsville City Manager Charlie Cabler said. “The majority of our officers are homegrown. They’ve lived and understand the culture of Brownsville. We’re proud that this agreement with TSC allows many of our trained personnel be a part of the instruction. The partnership with TSC will share the responsibility of putting a student through their first phase of police training as a team. It’s a tremendous effort.”

“All law enforcement officers in our communities get their start in the police academies,” added Brownsville Police Chief Orlando Rodriguez. “They are so vital in the shaping of first responders. The academy means so much to us and that’s why we make our commitment to the academy. The Brownsville Police Department will continue its commitment to public safety and to help train our future officers. We are looking forward to working together in this partnership with TSC.”
