From drop out to CNA – BISD, TSC student finds renewed hope

Texas Southmost College Workforce Training and Continuing Education is preparing the workforce of tomorrow with in-demand technical programs that produce skilled workers to meet the needs of local industry, the region and the state.

In support of the college’s efforts, the Texas Workforce Commission recently awarded TSC with a $350,000 Texas Talent Connection Grant during a check signing ceremony at the TSC Performing Arts Center. This was the second year TSC was awarded funding through this grant program.

Nayda Rodriguez recently earned a certificate from TSC’s Certified Nursing Assistant program.

TSC alumnus turned FBI agent remembers his Scorpion roots

Gilberto Balli is a first-generation American who grew up in the heart of Brownsville and whose career has taken him from Brownsville Police Department dispatcher to FBI special agent.

The Texas Southmost College alumnus is an Assistant Special Agent in charge of the FBI Jacksonville Resident Agency in Florida and said his interest in pursuing law enforcement as a career goes back to his childhood.

TSC graduate positioned to fulfill her dream in law enforcement

Living along the U.S.-Mexico border as a little girl, Faith Soto would often see U.S. Border Patrol vehicles traveling along Rio Grande Valley highways, and she would tell her mom she was going to work there someday.

Fast forward several years, the Brownsville native is on her way to fulfilling her dream as a recent graduate of the Criminal Justice program at Texas Southmost College.

New TSC Childcare program coordinator has teaching in her veins

Crystal Prado is coming to Texas Southmost College with nearly 20 years of experience in the education field. Coming from a family of teachers, Prado said she is ready to take her teachings to a new level – higher education.

The 36-year-old was recently hired by TSC as the program coordinator and an instructor for the Childcare and Development program, making the transition from K-12 to higher education.

Brownsville fire chief gets his start at TSC

Brownsville Fire Department Chief Jarrett Sheldon has spent nearly 30 years of his life serving his community, but has never forgotten where he started – Texas Southmost College.

The Los Fresnos native first became a volunteer fire fighter when he was only 15 years old, following in his father’s footsteps, who served decades in the U.S. Navy as a firefighter, in crash rescue, in the industrial emergency medical services and with the Brownsville and Los Fresnos fire departments.
