Five Different Players Score as TSC Team Rebounds from Previous Loss, Building Momentum for Upcoming Divisional Play<\/em><\/p>\n BROWNSVILLE\u2014The Lady Scorpions dominated game two of the soccer season against North East Texas College, 5-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n Five different players scored the goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the first goal of the game, Freshman Aleythia Gutierrez made an impressive play as she kicked the ball in the air letting it hit the ground. She then she bounced it off of her head and onto the ground again, immediately kicking it into the goal.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the second goal, Freshman Centerback Melanie Saldana headed down the field but was intensely blocked by her opponent. The Eagles took the ball for a brief moment but midfielder America Guerra recovers it. Guerra passes it back to Saldana and Saldana scores.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the second half, freshman Anahi Banda trips while handling the ball, as she fell down, Freshman Isabel Rodriguez saved it and scored. Later in the half, Raquel Lopez dribbled the ball past her opponents and kicked a nice diagonal shot into the goal.\u00a0 The ladies described the win as a comeback.\u00a0<\/p>\n “We worked together well as a team after yesterday’s loss,” Saldana said. “We reevaluated last night, and we decided to stay positive and just get on top of it, and today, the communication was so much better.”\u00a0<\/p>\n Head Coach Mario Zamora said he’s proud of the girls for scoring after struggling to score in the previous game, which was the day before.\u00a0<\/p>\n “We have to learn from our mistakes and correct them,” Zamora said. “They were able to execute the way we were supposed to.”<\/p>\n Armando Ponce, TSC’s Executive Director of Athletics, said he thinks the team is off to a great start to the season. “It’s something for us to build on,” he said. “We have very young team, a lot of our team are primarily freshman…18 years old, right out of high school. It’s a good chance for us to build some momentum. “We’re going to start our divisional play next week so it’s a good opportunity to start on a positive note.”\u00a0<\/p>\n The team is in good spirits heading into the rest of the season. “I’m honestly feeling really excited I’m looking forward to bonding more with the teammates getting to know each other,” Annette Perez said. “We still have a lot to go and there is still room for improvement.”\u00a0<\/p>\n The ladies had over 30 shots in the game but only 5 scores. In the last score of the game, Itzel Yanez was pushed as she made her way down the field, but luckily, Freshman Annette Perez was there to recover the ball and score.\u00a0<\/p>\n
