BROWNSVILLE — The Scorpions\u00a0faced off against Paris Junior College Friday, September 13, ultimately falling short 2-1.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
The first half started off intense, both teams brought high energy to Scorpion field to kick off the official start of soccer season.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
The Scorpions had 5 shots in the first half and 7 in the second, for a total of 12. Among the shots, one from sophomore midfielder Ari Soriano sailed just left of the post. Later in the game, Freshman Edgar Hernandez, with a strong try, recovered by Paris Junior College. But Hernandez didn’t give up, he attempted another goal shortly after, barely missing the goal. At one point, freshman midfielder Mario Briseno passed a corner kick to freshman forward Angel Rodriguez, who quickly took a shot caught by PJC’s goalkeeper.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
The Dragons scored two goals in the first half, with 3 shots in the first half, 2 in the second. Scorpions defense was persistent in the second half though with no goals against them.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Perhaps the moment of the game is when Freshman Forward Omar Solis scored his first goal of the season in the first half. He said it happened so fast he just remembers getting a rebound from forward Juan Velez and going for the goal.<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cIt was a tight game but I’m happy I scored my first goal in college,” said Solis.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
While Solis was proud of scoring his first college goal, he said he and his team need to make some improvements to win the next game.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
“We need to improve on communication and playing hard\u2026with a lot of effort,” said Solis.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Head Coach Mario Zamora said the loss was tough but he encouraged his players to be mindful of the mistakes and return ready to win in their next game. With 12 shots, 7 more than their opponent, Zamora said the players now need to focus on executing their shots to make the goals.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
