Registration for spring 2021 at Texas Southmost College is around the corner and with remote operations still in effect, new and returning students have a number of virtual options when it comes to preparing for next semester.<\/p>\n

Registration for spring 2021 begins Oct. 15.<\/p>\n

TSC Executive Director of Enrollment and Academic Support Vanessa Vasquez said it\u2019s important that students don\u2019t wait until the last minute to register.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand times are challenging and a lot has changed, but we still want to encourage students to register early so they get the classes they need,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd we\u2019re here to accommodate them the best we can.\u201d<\/p>\n

New and returning students can expect to complete the entire registration process virtually from meeting with advisors to registering for classes.<\/p>\n

All returning students in good standing will be able to register using TSC Online, the college\u2019s student web advisor.<\/p>\n

However, first-time-in-college students, transfer students with less than 12 semester credit hours, students on academic probation and students who need developmental education courses must meet with an advisor before registering.<\/p>\n

Students will have the option of making an appointment online to meet with an advisor via telephone, email or video conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe health and safety of our students, faculty and staff has always been our priority, especially now during the pandemic,\u201d said Vasquez. \u201cWhich is why we\u2019re working hard to minimize face-to-face contact by offering online services.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, any student who needs to submit documents for application and registration purposes can either submit them via email, via text message or by using a mailbox located outside of the Oliveira Student Services Center.<\/p>\n

For those without computer, printer or internet access, the Oliveira Student Services Center computer lab recently reopened for students.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy offering our students these services, we ensure that they will have what they need to process everything in a timely manner,\u201d said Vasquez. \u201cOur goal is to get them registered and ready for the spring semester.\u201d<\/p>\n

TSC Criminal Justice student Lorena Rivera said she has always taken advantage of registering early.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow more than ever it\u2019s important to get everything you need for school done early,\u201d said the 19-year-old. \u201cI encourage other students to do the same. It\u2019s one less thing to worry about, especially now. TSC provides us with all of the resources we need, so why not use them?\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that the virtual services TSC has offered during the pandemic have really meant a lot to her because it shows that TSC cares about the safety of its students and employees.<\/p>\n

To help make the registration process smoother for prospective and current TSC students like Rivera, Vasquez encourages students to maintain an open line of communication with their admission representative or advisor. She also suggests that students book appointments with advisors as soon as possible, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early and follow all TSC safety precautions when visiting the student computer lab.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working extremely hard to meet the needs of our students,\u201d said Vasquez. \u201cWe are here to provide students everything they need to get ready for classes, while staying safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
