Be a changemaker.
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a federal program that brings people together to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges through national service and volunteering
By becoming a VISTA member, you join more than 7,000 AmeriCorps members who serve annually to alleviate poverty by helping local organizations expand their capacity to make change.
As an AmeriCorps member in the Texas Southmost College VISTA program, you will work to make sustainable change to lift people out of poverty through activities such as program design and evaluation, grant writing, research, and volunteer recruitment. During your term of service, you will gain professional experience and leadership skills that will prepare you for a life of service in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.
There are no pre-eligibility requirements, such as age or income limits, to apply. Since it is a federal grant, candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. AmeriCorps provides a living allowance of approximately $1,350/month, a $5,000 education bonus at the end of service, and other benefits. The positions are full-time (40 hours per week) and are funded for one year from the VISTA member’s start date, with possible renewal for a second year.
