Welcome to the Social Work Program at Texas Southmost College!
Texas Southmost College offers an Associate of Arts in Social Work (AASW). Students who complete this 2-year program successfully have the option to seek employment or to continue their education. Students pursuing the AASW learn foundational social work concepts in courses designed to develop a strong foundation in social work values and ethics. Courses emphasize critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills. Our program includes volunteer hours in local community agencies, where students learn through active service.
The Associate of Arts in Social Work prepares students to work with a variety of populations such as children, families, the aged, or the homeless. Students might work as an entry-level worker in a large state agency or as a social service assistant in agencies such as a senior citizens program, a food bank, a community service center, a program for youth or the homeless, or a large government agency.
The Associate of Arts in Social Work is excellent preparation for transfer to an accredited undergraduate program in order to complete a Bachelor of Social Work or to transfer to a Bachelor of Arts program in a field related to social service.
