Welcome to Texas Southmost College Medical Office Management Program. The Medical Office Management Program offers an Associate of Applied Science degree and a Certificate of Proficiency-Level One. The Associate of Applied Science program at Texas Southmost College is recognized by the state of Texas as meeting the Texas Skills Standards Board, skill standards for Medical Office Managers.
Medical Office Management (AAS Degree)
An important component of this degree is the integration of medical coding and billing instruction with courses in supervision and accounting.
Cooperative Education (Co-Op) is a component of the Medical Office Management Program. Co-Op offers the student the opportunity to earn college credit for achievement of learning activities, which are accomplished through skills learned in the classroom and applied at the workplace. This class is taken the last semester of the program. Co-op is a team effort involving the supervisor, the student, and the faculty. Note: Some supervisors do background checks.
Medical Coding and Billing (Certificate of Proficiency)
Coursework includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, health data standards, coding and abstraction of data, and electronic medical records. Coding certification is available through the American Academy of Procedural Coders (AAPC).
All students in the Medical Office Management Program are required to have professional liability insurance. The professional liability insurance is included in the fees paid by the student when he/she enrolls in the Co-Op course.
